Yefon: The Red Necklace by Sahndra Fon Dufe Review/Giveaway #‎yefontherednecklace‬

A powerful, emotional tale of ambition and courage by Cameroonian-born Sahndra Fon Dufe, the Common Wealth of Nations recognized author of 'Dear momma'. (2004)

Yefon: The RedNecklace (YRN) is the first book of the YEFON trilogy series. It will have you wrapped up with emotions you didn’t know you had!

Young tribal girl, Yefon Labam, knows she’s different.

During the 1950's, in her Central African village, women are uneducated and are expected to either work on a farm or be one of many wives, but Yefon dares for more—she wants to learn how to read, even if looking at a book could mean her death.  Although everyone thinks she’s an abomination, including her mother and sisters, her father knows she’s destined for greater things.

When he is murdered, Yefon clings to the gift he gave her for inspiration—a red necklace. She soon comes to realize that the necklace is no ordinary ornament, but a talisman crafted by the spirits. Yefon walks a dangerous path that could lead to her freedom…or her death.

My Review:
When I first heard of this book I was not sure what it was going to be exactly. I am very glad I got the chance to read it though. Reading about someone else's struggles always makes me see my life in a different way. I have an easy life compared to Yefon. What she went through and experienced was emotional. She dared to push limits and follow her dreams. I enjoyed the book a lot.

Fun at Colorado Renaissance Festival

*Disclosure: The Colorado Renaissance Festival provided me with free tickets. These are my opinions and experiences only yours may differ.*

I have wanted to go to the Colorado Renaissance Festival since I was a kid. I was so happy to get to go this year with my little family. It only took us 25-30 minutes to get there and we left early to be sure to get parking. From the opening of the castle to the time we left I had a blast. My husband and daughter really enjoyed themselves as well.

My husband got pics taken where ever he could with anyone in costume too. As you can see above he enjoyed himself a huge turkey leg. We had lunch and were pretty impressed with the prices. They were fairly priced when it came to food and drinks. Of course we had to get a few souvenirs as well. Christine got a hat and I got a few t-shirts.

There was a lot of entertainment and sights to see as well. There were a few shows we were able to see that I really enjoyed. Above is the stage to one of the shows but we actually missed it. We did get to see the Kamikaze Fireflys and Puke and Snot. Both were really good but Christine got bored. She did however really enjoy the children's realm. There she got to ride a cow and pet goats and sheep. There were also lots of rides for the little ones to enjoy. Elephant and camel rides were available too!

You still have time to go have fun int he past with your family. The festival will run July 26-27 and the last weekend is August 2 and 3. It is open 10 am to 6 pm rain or shine and there is fee parking. Get there early to get a close spot. Tickets cost $19.95 for ages 12+ at the gate but you can go to King Soopers for discount ones.  Children 5-12 are $9 at the gate. You can also use a coupon and get free kids admission.
The address to the festival is: 650 W. Perry Park Ave. Larkspur, CO 80118

We already have plans to go next year and hope you will get to go this year!!

Persecuted Book Review

"Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

The question is not IF attempts will be made to limit religious freedom, but when.
John Luther, simply wants to share the Gospel and enjoy a quiet life with his family. He never asked to be at the center of a political controversy, but an ill wind has been blowing through the halls of Congress, and supporters of a new religious-equality bill see Luther's endorsement as critical.  When Luther refuses to lend his support, he unknowingly sets in motion an explosive plan bent on destroying his reputation and undermining everything for which he stands. His once-normal life is turned upside down as he becomes a fugitive left with only one dangerous option--putting everything he holds most dear at risk while he fights to expose the truth. It is a mission that brings him face-to-face with the coming storm of persecution that could threaten the very fabric of our nation's freedoms.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see the movie! There is actions and emotions run high in the book. It was a page turning adventure that kept me wanting more. It did not take me too long to finish it either. Below is the trailer for the movie. Enjoy!

The Last Letter by Kathleen Shoop Book Review/Giveaway

A Father’s Deceit
A Husband’s Betrayal
A Loved One’s Death
A Mother’s Choice
A Daughter’s Resentment
A Time to Forgive

For every daughter who thinks she knows her mother’s story…

Katherine wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t found the last letter…

Katherine Arthur’s dying mother arrives on her doorstep, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget. When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted, but she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie’s husband Frank it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But, it was a society of uncertainty — a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.

Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine’s world apart. Now, seventeen years later, Katherine has found the truth — she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it’s too late?

My Review:
I loved this book! I was stuck to it after the first chapter. There was so much tension between the mom and daughter that I had to keep reading because I wanted to know why. The book was current and historical. It would go back to the mom's way of life and what she went through then back to the present time with the family. It had a lot of twists and kept me hooked in. It was one that I finished fast just to find out what would happen next. Definitely a great read!!

A Guardian of Shadows (Revenant Wyrd Saga Book 4) Review/Giveaway

A Guardian of Shadows (The Revenant Wyrd Saga #4)

The thrilling sequel to The Well of Wyrding. In the enchanted lands of the Great Realms, Angelica, Jovian, and Joya are searching for their kidnapped sister, Amber. Their quest has led them through many dangers and many excitements, but nothing has prepared them for what’s about to come.

The wyr are alive, the Two who were never supposed to exist. They are destined to control the wyrd and fate of all mankind. Their very existence is destroying the world tree, on whose roots the fate of man is etched, and causing the Well of Wyrding, which sustains the world tree, to dissolve. Now Angelica and Jovian are hunted by the Norns, those three sisters of fate who guard the world tree and live at its roots, observing and preserving fate, who believe Angelica and Jovian are the wyr.

Angelica, Joya, and Jovian are on a race to escape the Norns as well as find their sister Amber, but with no clue where she could be, they turn their attention toward home, deep in the Holy Realm. The problem? Between them and their destination is the accursed land of eternal night: the Shadow Realm. Rumored to be filled with nightmarish creatures, forsaken to its shadowy depths, the Shadow Realm promises death to any from the Holy Realm who dare enter.

My Review: I am really enjoying this saga! This book was a little hard to read because I found that I needed to go back to the others to refresh myself a little. I do love how the characters continue to develop. One thing I did not like was that the end of it left me hanging. I guess I will have to wait until the next. I hate waiting but this saga is worth the wait just to find out what will happen next. The book is full of great details and is a good read. Can't wait for the next one!!

About the Author
Travis has been writing since he was 14.  He began writing a book called "The Calling of the Two" and while writing that on and off he started uncovering another idea.

"Yes, this is all well and good, but what about before? What happened in the world before these characters came into it?" He always knew there was a "before" and as he started wondering about it he got ideas. At first they were little ideas but as he discovered the names for his characters a whole story about them emerged.
Travis started working on The Revenant Wyrd Saga several years back and he is very happy he did because hearing and documenting Jovian and Angelica's story has been one wild ride for him.  He has also written the Infernal Design series.

He lives in a small town at the base of the Adirondack Mountains and hoofing around my neck of the woods gives him a ton of inspiration for his novels.   He loves research, and speculating on different ideas and theories.

Nutrition On-The-Go with Honey Bunches of Oats (Review)

*Disclosure: I was provided complimentary samples to facilitate my review. These are my opinions and experiences only and yours may differ.*

As a busy mom I am always looking for an easy way to get breakfast in. I usually end up skipping it (which is not good). I am so glad I got to try these single serve cups from Honey Bunches of Oats. I was also sent some neat to go bowls that have built in spoons and they keep milk cold.

The cup bottom is put in the freezer and when you go to use it it keeps whatever you put in it cold. This combination is perfect for the busy Summer. The on-the-go cups are perfect for activities such as:
  • Beach trips
  • Summer camp
  • Camping
  • Boat rides
  • and more...
You can really use them for any on-the-go stuff you are doing this Summer. Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds has been a favorite cereal of mine for a long time. I am very happy to see it in on-the-go cups. No more skipping breakfast for me. The best part is the cereal has 5 grams of protein and vitamins and minerals so it is a healthy option for a fast breakfast. If you want to stock up on some for your Summer you can go to Shop Honey Bunches of Oats. This will definitely be my go to on-the-go breakfast from now on!

Good 2 Grow Drinks Review

*Disclosure: I was provided complimentary samples to help facilitate my review. These are my experiences and opinions and yours may differ.*

I was so happy to get the chance to try out good2grow drinks. Christine and I are on the go a lot and she tends to be picky with what she drinks. Good2grow is perfect for her because she gets to chose what character she wants on top. The first she chose was Hello Kitty. She loves her! Good2grow has so many character tops to chose from that any little kid would be happy.

As you can see in the pictures above Christine is very happy with her juice. She has tried every variety that Good2grow offers. She enjoyed them all (even the fruit veggie one!). I enjoy that they are not loaded with sugars and are 100% juice. We definitely recommend these to all out friends out there.

You can purchase the drinks at stores like Wal-mart, Safeway, and 7-Eleven. They come in 4 ounce and 6 ounce sizes. The flavors are: apple, fruit punch, strawberry kiwi, and organic apple.

Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade Review

*Disclosure: I was provided complimentary product in exchange for my honest review. These are my opinions and experiences and yours may differ.*

Summer is officially here! That means it is time for lemonade and other yummy drinks to cool off. Santa Cruz Organic makes lemonade and flavored lemonades. They offer:

  • Lemonade
  • Cherry Lemonade
  • Mango Lemonade
  • Peach Lemonade
  • Raspberry Lemonade
  • Strawberry Lemonade
All of their lemonades are certified organic. I was sent two to try out. I was sent Lemonade and Mango Lemonade.

I have never had a mango lemonade before but it was really yummy! These bottles were gone in two or three days. The lemonades were not too sweet but just right. They are a great way to cool off on a hot Summer day by the pool. I plan to get more because we liked them a lot. You can learn more about the company and it's other products at Santa Cruz Oganics. They get two thumbs up from my house.
